How to Clear ClickOnce Cache

Cache issues will typically be specific to one or a few workstations, but not all.

Possible symptoms:

  • Application will not launch and no logs generated when holding down ALT during application startup.
  • Application launching twice

WARNING: Clearing the cache will remove ALL clickonce applications currently in the cache, and the will need to be reloaded/downloaded at next run. Contact your system administrator if you do not have access to the command prompt or are not comfortable using it.

Method 1: Clearing the .net Online Cache from command prompt: "rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache"

To Access the command prompt

  1. Start > Run...
  2. Then enter "cmd" in the Open: box and click 'OK'

Example:

Application will be re-installed at next launch

Method2: Browse to Local Settings\Apps\2.0 folder and delete all contents, which should do about the same thing.  If the path cannot be found try looking relative to this environment variable.

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Apps\2.0

UPDATE: Windows 7 vs XP: On windows Vista and Windows 7, the ClickOnce cache location is: c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\obfuscatedfoldername\obfuscatedfoldername

On Windows XP, it's here: C:\Documents and Settings\username\LocalSettings\Apps\2.0\obfuscatedfoldername\obfuscatedfoldername
